Dr. Leslie Ricklin, Professor Emeritus of Eastern Connecticut State University, shares the fascinating history of the mills on the Natchaug River. Her lecture paid particular attention to the paper mill in Chaplin that used Egyptian mummy wrapping for the manufacture of paper.

The Chaplin Elementary School community had been pulling together to beautify the grounds and building at the school this summer. On August 7th a mighty group of committed individual braved the threat of bad weather to work on cleaning up the pre-K gardens and the Water Garden. The work will continue into the school year and will include work on the greenhouse and indoor painting.
